Historic Signing of the Declaration of Arbroath
Arbroath Abbey was the location of a historic event in the year thirteen twenty, the signing of the Declaration of Arbroath. Signed by the Scottish nobility in Arbroath Abbey, they declared their nationhood and right to Scottish self goverment.
The Declation was addressed to the Pope who had given his support to Robert the Bruce. The signing of the document is reconstructed each year on 6th April by the Arbroath Abbey Pagent Society .

The Arbroath Abbey Pageant Society was formed in 1947 by local people to commemorate and educate people about that great document,the Declaration of Arbroath and historical event, the signing that took place within the walls of Arbroath Abbey upon the 6th of April 1320. The original was lost but a close copy is housed in the National Archive of Scotland in Edinburgh.
